Throwback Thursday: Indigenous Textiles

In celebration of National Reconciliation Week, the Australian High Commission brought talented Aboriginal designer, Arkie Barton to West Africa, as well as textiles by Aboriginal fashion label, Magpie Goose.

In partnership with the Board of Fashion Ghana and Vickie Remoe and Company, the High Commission presented a range of unique Australian, Ghanaian and Sierra Leonean textiles and designs at fashion shows in Accra and Freetown. The fabrics and designs expressed the creative wealth, versatility and beauty of Indigenous cultures of Australia, Ghana and Sierra Leone and told the stories of the designer’s people.

Radford University‘s final year fashion design students Steve French, Sama Fletcher, Samuel Otteng, Alexandra Tomiyama, Aisha Badoo, Nathaniel Boi, Dorcas Kpogoh all presented their collections at this fashion show which took place at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra.
